Two hearts in love

AC007A

Sorry guys I didn’t post anything in a long time… I have couple things that need to be posted but I’m actually turning into a couch potato nowadays.. hehe… I have become so lazy that the mere thought of getting out of the couch to do some quilling is not even possible. He he.. Then a dear friend and a regular customer called and asked for an anniversary card. And Finally I’m off the couch!! He he…

So she wanted a design involving two hearts, and gave me the freedom to do any design I like. It’s for her 7th anniversary and then I realized that I did her 5th and 6th anniversary cards as well!  How fast time flies!!! Ah I’m completely out of track….Anyway back to the design!

The colors used here are bright pink and bright yellow which I think is amazing together! Just like the couple who are celebrating their anniversary.. he he… I’ve used stripes to create the illusion of two colors being mixed together. I think it worked pretty well. The pop up is a very simple one with the same colors. I love the idea of two tones!! I
That’s for now and I have some big projects that I’m doing recently.. will post them here once I’m done with them.. ASAP …

Quilled Pink Elephant

HC021B

Hey folks !!! what’s brewing in the crafting world nowadays??? Sorry for being silent for a loooong time!!! I’ve been busy for some time…. Well anyway, I’m back!!
Lately I’ve been thinking about baby cards….and just as I was thinking that no one has asked me to do a baby card yet.. a call came from a friend requesting a birthday card for a little girl!!! For her 1st birthday!! I was thrilled!!! However I’ve been brainstorming for ideas for 2 days… and here’s the result!!!
A pink elephant card!!! Yup! Who says elephants are supposed to be black anyway….. I chose the colors pink, yellow and white as the theme colors and animals were chose as the theme. When it comes to creating cards for kids forget the words elegance, glamour and complex art that no one understands!! LOL!! Yup, you can use lots of colors and lots of stuff on kids cards…. being simple doesn’t mean doing one elephant on a plain card!! You gotta add some stuff to it!! Remember you are making the card for the kid…not for the parents!!!
So, the patterned paper of yellow and white flowers on the front was actually created by me… using a plain yellow paper with hand cut small flowers… the pink polka dot ribbon with the elephant adds pink to the card.. The elephant is filled with bright pink open coils.. And if you were wondering what the yellow marquise doing there..That’s the long flappy ears of the elephant!! Hehe.. he’s holding 3 balloons, ‘cos the theme is animal-party thingy …
The lettered buttons are actually made by me… The inside has a pop-up of a giraffe who seems to be enjoying the party a lot!  and huge gift ! the letters “happy” hangs too…cos this is where the party is!!! And the confetti seems to be just everywhere…hmm a happening party, I guess!!! Hehe. The message is covered with polka dots!
The padded envelope is pink and decorated with some flowers…

Quilled Wall hanger - Quilled Names

Well folks, how’s everything with you?? Let me tell you what I’ve been doing! I did a huge quilling thing last month actually... it’s not that huge really...but for me it was!! Cos it involved rolling and rolling and rolling!!! He he

So this is my new project! I did a wall hanger using quilling!! I’ve been doing quilling for cards some time... but this is the first time I used it for a wall hanger! This is actually a gift for a newly weds! I made it especially for my sweet cousin Jan actually! “JAN” is the bride’s name and “YAJ” is the groom’s name, in short! He he I wanted to give something that reflects themselves!! And I’m happy cos they are happy with it too!!!

I’m really tired of all the quilled flowers and leaves nowadays so I thought of doing something with simple rolling and swirls!! But believe me… it wasn’t so simple as much as I thought it would be!
The hardest part was to pick the colors…at first it was a rainbow colors...But it looked too complicated so I reduced it to 3 colors finally! Then came the problem of which colors…I had to pick red...cos it shows love...then yellow…cos it’s one of the nicest colors I have in my color palette now..And then I chose green...the color of nature…and voila! There are my 3 colors!! He he

So at first I rolled and unrolled lots of paper coils to make simple swirls, cos I wanted to do a complex design with simple things!! Did that make sense??? He he.. My intention was to create a design that embosses the name of the couple, I wanted to fill the whole things… but again not too complex!! That’s why I used simple form of quilling! Doing the wording a little bit hard...I filled each parts of color one by one...spontaneously putting rolls here and there... I did couple of flowers and heart just to add some variety!
The idea was to hide the letters in the quilling jungle! The letters have to blend in with the colors and the design! And it took some time and lots of patience to finish!! But I’m totally happy with the outcome!

Oh and forgot to mention one thing... I made the frame all by myself!! Yup!! I used a transparent sheet instead of glass...and black thick board for the frame.. I’m hoping to do a tutorial on framing later…

The color of the card is something that I have never used before.. which was sitting sadly with other cardstock....!1hehe So I decided that today is ur lucky day..brown card and idi something with that...!! finding the colors that goes with a color like this a little hard... Cos I can't have all the colors that I want to have !! hmm

it's a very simple design... no pop ups.. instead i did the greeting inside the card...well that;s it for today...!!

Quilling just got a lot easier!!

YAY!! I’m sooo happy nowadays!! Cos I finally found what I was looking for a long time!! And that’s A PAPER SHREDDER!! You have no idea how valuable it is for me!!! Well if you are a Quiller you sure do!!

For those who don’t know what a paper shredder is, let me explain it to you!! Paper shredder is actually used for destroying paper, but here, we quillers use it to cut strips for quilling. It’s really interesting to see that, something that is used  for destruction can be used for construction!! This shredder actually trims paper in to thin strips,  therefore it’s perfect to cut paper strips for our quilling projects.

Until now, I used a metal ruler and a paper cutter to cut strips! Which is a very very boring n tiring process indeed! The pains in my arms after cutting lots of strips! First I have to mark strips of 3mm wide, then cut them. vry time consuming process, too! Phew! Well, goodbye to those days now, cos I got my new baby in my arms…hehehe!!
This one is a mini hand paper shredder, because it is powered manually, it cuts strips of 3mm length , which is the perfect size for quilling strips. I still have to cut my A4 size papers in half to feed the cutter, as it only accept 123mm wide papers.

I actually found it in the stationary shop that I usually shop for supplies. It was in a corner in the shop in a part where I never looked, because that’s where toys and school bags ..sort of things are.. So I never took an interest to go there.. well, it just might have been sitting on the shelf all along! Well, better late than never! I was so happy to see this hand shredder, and wanted it so badly, no matter what the price was!! Haha , and luckily for me it wasn’t very expensive. And I also found this circles template, which can be a great help when quilling flowers, so that you can create petals of the same size.

So quilling just got a lot easier for me!! I’ve been hoping to do some new quilling projects lately, and found this baby just in time…  they are gonna require lots of strips.. so time to do some serious quilling!!!!
